Helping Young People Thrive – Early, Accurate, Compassionate Care

Introduction

At MSQ Health, our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service supports young people facing emotional, behavioural, or developmental challenges. Whether your child is struggling with focus, anxiety, low mood, school difficulties, or more complex mental health issues, our team is here to help.

We offer comprehensive assessments and personalised treatment plans delivered by vocationally registered psychiatrists. Our goal is to provide early, accurate diagnosis and compassionate care that involves the whole whānau.

Appointments are available in person (Auckland and other locations) and via secure video consultation nationwide, often at short notice.

    Psychiatric Services Offered

We assess and treat a wide range of conditions affecting children and adolescents, including:

    • ADHD
    • Anxiety Disorders (e.g. generalised, separation, or social anxiety)
    • Depression and mood changes
    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    • Bipolar Disorder
    • Schizophrenia and psychotic illness
    • Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)
    • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
    • Severe emotional distress or behavioural changes

We work collaboratively with parents, schools, and other healthcare providers to deliver safe, personalised, and age-appropriate care. Our mission is to intervene early and help each child move forward with strength and support.

    ADHD Assessment & Treatment

ADHD is one of the most common – and most misunderstood – neurodevelopmental conditions in children and teens. However, not all assessments are created equal.

At MSQ Health, we offer a medical-led ADHD assessment that goes beyond tick-box forms. Our psychiatrists consider developmental history, school functioning, social context, and behavioural patterns — not just parent concerns or psychologist questionnaires.

    We assess:

    • Attention and distractibility
    • Hyperactivity and impulsivity
    • Emotional regulation
    • School performance concerns

If a diagnosis is confirmed, we’ll work with you on a tailored treatment plan. This may include behavioural support, school-based interventions, or medication.

Prescriptions can be issued directly to your preferred local pharmacy, including for patients seen via video.

      Pre-Psychiatric Medical Screening

Before your child’s consultation, we gather key information so our psychiatrist can make a well-informed, clinically accurate assessment.

      We require:

      • GP Referral – Including relevant medical history, family history, and any medications.
      • Parent/Caregiver Questionnaires – To provide context about behaviours and concerns at home.
      • School Reports or Teacher Feedback – Offering independent, corroborated observations in classroom and peer environments.

This preparation allows our psychiatrist to identify consistent patterns across settings and ensures the diagnosis is based on multiple, independent sources.
